Fernandes Breaks Premier League Record as Manchester United Beat Brighton 3-0

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes delivered another historic performance as Manchester United defeated Brighton & Hove Albion 3-0 in their final Premier League match of the 2025-26 season.

The Portuguese midfielder broke the Premier League’s single-season assists record by registering his 21st assist of the campaign, surpassing the previous record jointly held by Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne. Fernandes achieved the milestone in the 33rd minute when his corner kick was headed home by Patrick Dorgu.

Manchester United dominated the match from start to finish at the Amex Stadium. Dorgu opened the scoring before Bryan Mbeumo doubled the lead just before halftime after a brilliant attacking move involving Amad Diallo and Mason Mount. Fernandes later added his own goal early in the second half, finishing calmly after a fast counterattack.

The victory capped off an impressive turnaround season for Manchester United under manager Michael Carrick. United secured a third-place Premier League finish and qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Carrick praised his squad’s mentality and the club’s promising future after the match.

Fernandes’ record-breaking campaign has further strengthened his claim as one of the best midfielders in world football. The midfielder finished the league season with nine goals and 21 assists, playing a crucial role in Manchester United’s success throughout the year. He was also recently named Premier League Player of the Season and Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year.

Despite the heavy defeat, Brighton still managed to secure qualification for the UEFA Conference League after results elsewhere went in their favor. It marks only the second time in the club’s history that Brighton will compete in European football.

The match will be remembered mainly for Fernandes’ historic achievement, as the Manchester United captain once again proved why he remains the heartbeat of the Red Devils’ midfield.
